You've taken the leap, dug in deep, and worked hard to put together a manuscript. Or you're in the middle of a project and find yourself stuck. Whether it's a novel, a collection of short stories, a memoir, or a work of nonfiction, you're ready to take it to the next level, but are not sure where to begin.

I've been there. We all have. Whether we're beginning or established writers, we all need a trusted second set of eyes in order to make our work shine. That's why I've put together Manuscript Tune-Up. It's a manuscript consultation service designed to offer support, practical feedback, and personalized editing advice to writers at all stages.

For over 15 years, I've worked in a range of professional advisory and communication capacities, overseeing the editing and production of everything from website copy to feature articles and long-form writing. In the literary world, I've guest-edited prestigious literary journals and lead writing workshops, classes and retreats. Through Manuscript Tune-Up, I’ve had the great privilege to work with award-winning authors and those producing a manuscript for the first time. I work hands-on with writers, asking probing questions to clarify the purpose and intention you bring to your work. Manuscript Tune-Up is designed first and foremost to offer you honest feedback. As a professional freelance editor, I continue to hone my own skills through ongoing professional development, ensuring that the writers I work with receive respect, caring attention, and a workable plan to move their writing forward.

Here's how Manuscript Tune-Up works. You choose a package that best suits the type of feedback and support you require. During a free initial consultation, we'll discuss your goals and intentions for working together. I can answer your questions and you can decide if working this way is right for you. If you decide it is, we'll roll up our sleeves to get your manuscript in shape, working within set timelines to provide you with structure and accountability. Throughout the process, I'll be with you every step as a guide and trusted support. Depending on your needs, we’ll either focus on developmental (big picture) edits, closer line editing, or a combination of both (in Intensive or Deluxe packages).

Note that prices listed below are valid for manuscripts and projects of up to 160 pages (double-spaced, 12 pt font). For manuscripts beyond this length, a charge of $3/page will apply (per round of feedback). Instalment payment plans are negotiable. A very limited number of Tune-Up spots are available each fall and winter. Occasionally, I’ll offer a spring/summer intake.

BASIC

the BAsic Manuscript Tune-Up package includes:
 

  • A free initial 30-minute consultation (Zoom)

  • One 90-minute manuscript discussion (Zoom) on a single manuscript of up to 160 pages (double-spaced), during which we will review major issues of structure, voice, action, character, plot--what's working well and what might be improved (developmental editing)

  • One detailed summary of workable feedback, plus limited notes on manuscript

  • One 45-minute follow-up question-and-answer session (Zoom) within two months

  • A 10% discount on all One Life services for one year, including workshops, writing retreats, & additional manuscript consultations or editing services

 

Package II:
InTENSIVE

 

$1850 + HST

4-6 months

2 rounds of feedback +

the Intensive Manuscript Tune-Up package includes:
 

  • A free initial 30-minute consultation (Zoom)

  • A total of two 90-minute manuscript discussions (Zoom) on a single manuscript of up to 160 pages (double-spaced), including one round of revisions, during which we will review major issues of structure, voice, action, character, plot--what's working well and what might be improved (developmental editing and line editing)

  • Two detailed summaries of workable feedback (one for each round), plus notes on both manuscripts

  • One 45-minute follow-up question-and-answer session (Zoom) within four months

  • A 15% discount on future One Life services for one year, including workshops, classes, One Life writing retreats, & additional manuscript consultations or editing services

PACKAGE III:
Deluxe

  • A total of three 90-minute manuscript discussions (Zoom) on a single manuscript of up to 160 pages (double-spaced), including revisions, during which we will review major issues of structure, voice, action, character, plot--what's working well and what might be improved (developmental editing, line editing, plus a deeper polish)

  • Three detailed summaries of workable feedback (one for each round), plus notes on all manuscripts

  • One 45-minute follow-up question-and-answer session (Zoom) within six months

  • A 15% discount on future One Life services for one year, including workshops, classes, One Life writing retreats, & additional manuscript consultations or editing services
