Make space for your writing.

Drop deeply into the richness of summer with this idyllic four-day writing retreat on PEI’s gorgeous South Shore. Designed for both new and experienced writers, Write by the Sea combines writing workshops, optional yoga and outdoor activities, special meals designed to showcase the Island’s spectacular culinary scene, and time to relax and unwind.

Join award-winning author Trevor Corkum to make time for your writing and deepen your commitment to creativity. Each morning, we’ll gather for daily writing workshops. Afternoons are dedicated to one-on-one meetings with the instructor, solo writing time and optional cultural activities, such as kayaking and cycling—or take time to explore the Island on your own! Evenings feature a combination of group dinners and free time for further writing or exploration. We’ll cap it off with a Sunday morning celebration and a chance to read your work to the group.

Trevor and Joshua provide a safe and supportive space for writers to explore their craft and to deepen their understanding of what it means to be a writer through self-reflection and meditation. It's a transformative experience.

This intimate retreat is set in vibrant, eclectic Victoria-by-the-Sea, a small fishing village turned flourishing artist colony. Victoria’s sumptuous restaurants and pubs stand side by side with an array of artisan shops. Visit potters, sculptors, painters, glass makers, and candle makers. Tempt yourself with handcrafted Island chocolates. See a show or enjoy a concert at the renowned Victoria Playhouse. Or end the evening with a glass of wine overlooking the ocean. Victoria is a compact village nestled on the coast, with its own small beach and coastal walking trails. Our retreat hotel, The Orient, is a historic Victoria landmark, offering rustic charm and a cozy home base for travellers since 1900.

Writing practice will be guided by Trevor Corkum, an award-winning author and creative writing instructor whose retreat offerings, workshops, and classes are held across Canada. This particular retreat provides you with the opportunity to workshop and edit a short piece of fiction or memoir. Whether you are curious about writing or have a specific fiction, nonfiction, or memoir project on the go, this retreat will give you space to commit time, energy and focus to your project. Workshop time features discussion on craft and technique, short writing activities, and the opportunity to workshop and receive feedback on your project. Writers registering before the earlybird deadline will have the opportunity to meet one on one with Trevor to discuss your project further.

An essential element supporting these personal adventures is the shared experience of connecting with your deepest creative self while in the community of others doing the same. Everything about the retreat experience is intentionally designed to drop you into a deep creative state, while also allowing maximum flexibility for you to explore and curate your Island experience as you wish.

Writing workshops will take place at The Hideout, a short five-minute drive from Victoria-by-the-Sea, and host to numerous retreats, workshops, and writing residencies. We may also schedule workshops and instructor meetings at outdoor spaces in Victoria-by-the-Sea. Check out the schedule or FAQ page for more information.

**As of March, 2021, due to the opening of the Atlantic Bubble, we anticipate the retreat will go ahead for writers from Atlantic Canada with COVID-19 restrictions in place (social distancing and masking indoors). The retreat will be limited in size and where possible, group workshops and instructor meetings will be held outdoors.

“Our intention for this retreat is to provide you with the space and time to explore your creative self, in a supportive community of fellow writers. With ample opportunity to dive deeply into your writing—my hope is that you can also fully embody the nourishing energy of our transition into autumn.”
